IMPACT OF THE HORSE
Two Worlds - One Event Competition and Mustang Adoption Friday and Saturday November 11th and 12th, 2016 Wasatch Event Center, Heber City, UT Domestic vs. Mustang Challenge Donnette Hicks, Sage Creek Equestrian of Heber City, UT, describes the challenge as the "highest scores going to the horse and rider team that shows the strongest 'willing partnership'. Its aim is to educate and inform by having both domestic equine and mustang come together in a friendly competition to showcase the usability and needs of America's wild-born horses." There are three divisions of the contest. 1. Impact of the Horse Mustang vs Domestic: A friendly competition between seasoned Domestics and the Mustang. Day one (Friday, November 11th) is a rugged mountain trail class. Day two (Saturday, November 12) top 5 Domestics and top 5 Mustangs come together for a freestyle championship. 2. The 100 Day Mega Impact Division: A group of trainers will have drawn for them ten five-year -old Mustangs and have 90 Days to prepare for day one ( Friday, November 11th ) a rugged mountain trail class. Day two (Saturday, November 12th) a top five enter the freestyle championship. 3. Youth and Yearling Division: Ten Mustang yearlings will be drawn for our youth division these competitors have 60 days to get ready for their championship freestyle class on Saturday, November 11th 2016. |

2017 UPCOMING EVENTS
EXTREME MUSTANG MAKEOVER EVENTS
Created and presented by the Mustang Heritage Foundation (MHF), the purpose of the Extreme Mustang Makeover competition is to showcase the beauty, versatility and trainability of the American Mustangs who roam freely on public lands throughout the West where they are protected by the Bureau of Land Management under federal law. The BLM periodically removes excess animals from the range to ensure herd health and protect rangeland resources. Thousands of the removed animals are then made available each year to the public for adoption. Over 6,700 Mustangs have been adopted through Mustang Heritage Foundation events and programs since 2007.
The mustangs competing in the Extreme Mustang Makeover events are wild mares and geldings typically four to seven years old that have been living in BLM off-range corrals. Approximately 100 days before competition, these wild mustangs are randomly paired with a horse trainer who has applied and been approved by the MHF. Trainers and mustangs spend 100 days working together to prepare to compete in a series of classes that will showcase their new skills. The horses will compete in a handling and conditioning class, a pattern class and a combined leading and riding class. The top 10 competitors will then compete in a freestyle finals performance. At the conclusion of the event all horses will be available for adoption via public competitive bid. The Mustang Open Show, a show produced and hosted by the Mustang Heritage Foundation, will be held in conjunction with the Extreme Mustang Makeover in Florida. The competition is open to competitors 8 years and older and any previously adopted mustang or burro with a BLM freeze mark. The competition is intended to allow adopters the opportunity to interact with other mustang enthusiasts and provide show experience for their animals. The competition is divided into three divisions including in-hand, walk-trot, and walk-trot-lope with each division divided into trail, pattern and freestyle classes.
