The Fun Fact is that....
...only horses (such as mustangs) with Spanish ancestors have the unique marking called "frame overo". The horse in the picture on the right is a perfect example. The "frame" refers to the usual appearance, which is of white patches in the center of the body and neck and framed by colored areas around them.

Meet Ranger, a frame overo mustang

WHAT IS A BUCKAROO, ANYWAY?

Buckaroo is a kind of cowboy – a very special kind. The word “Buckaroo” is the American way of saying the Spanish word for cowboy – “Vaqueros.” In Spanish, the V is pronounced like B, so Vaquero became Buckaroo when early American settlers learned the word.

The Spanish cowboys who came to America hundreds of years ago, along with Spanish horses had their own special style of handling cattle and their own special gear for working with horses.

Over the years, Buckaroo hats, chaps, saddles, lassos and lariats became more widespread throughout the USA, but Buckaroos are not the same as rodeo cowboys. Buckaroos are cowboys who spend their time working cattle on big ranches instead of performing at rodeos.

Some modern-day Buckaroos wear Spanish-style hats and chinks, and ride A-fork saddles with post horns and bucking rolls. Their gear may have lots of silver and is fancier than you’d see in other parts of the country.

In the 1937 movie Cherokee Strip, the hero Dick Hudson befriends a young boy named Barty who’s as good with a rifle as any of the grownup men who are trying to claim a piece of land in wild west Oklahoma. Camped out under the stars, Barty falls asleep listening to Dick singing, “My Little Buckaroo” to him.
